Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd - January 2016

I like how this month's box has been stripped of colour, and there's only a pop of it within its contents. It's like a fresh start for the new year. The scents are what we're all interested in the most, though, and I can say that the majority of this selection smell great. There are three which I don't like (including one which I definitely won't be keeping), but we'll get on to those as we go through them.

Strawberry Jam | It smells like the name suggests, which is similar to The Body Shop's strawberry range, if you're familiar with that. I really like it, and I don't have many strawberry scented melts in my collection, so that's a bonus.

Coconut | Again, it smells like you'd imagine, and I love it. I'm not a fan of the texture of coconut, but love the smell and taste. It's especially nice in the form of Malibu...

Baby Powder | This is the first one I'm not keen on. I know loads of people find it comforting, but I find it to be quite heavy. I think I'll like it in small doses, though, so I'm planning on breaking this into at least four pieces.

Crystal Mountain Water | I don't know how to describe this, other than to say it's fresh. It's just good!

Pink Denim | I had no idea how this would smell, but was pleasantly surprised. If your clothes were washed in a really nice softener, this is how they would smell.

Whiskey | I don't like this one. It's heavy and musky, and I can see it giving me a headache.

B.A.R.E Orange & Lemongrass | My favourite from the box. It's so fresh and fruity! Lemongrass is one of my favourite scents, so I was bound to like it.

B.A.R.E Cinnamon & Mandarin | On the other end of the spectrum, this is my least favourite from the box. I'm not a big fan of cinnamon anyway, but the mandarin takes the warmth of it and turns it bitter. It's so strong as well. I walked in my sister's room holding it, and I had to take it out because it was making her feel sick.

If you're signed up to Flamingo Candles' The Melt Crowd, what was your favourite scent from this month? And if you're not, what's your favourite scent in general?

P.S. The Melt Crowd subscription box is just £10 a month. You can read more about it here.

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd - December

The final box of 2015 arrived on my doorstep this afternoon, filled with even more wax melts. I'm either going to have to up my melting game, or cancel my subscription for a few months, because I have so many now! I'm not keen on December's selection as a whole, but I knew this would be the case because I'm not a fan of many Christmas scents to begin with.

The two I really don't like are Mistletoe and Christmas Pudding, which both happen to be The Melt Crowd exclusives. Mistletoe smells like a bitter perfume to me, and will be staying in its wrapper. Christmas Pudding has some warm notes, and smells a little like cake, which sounds nice on paper, but they're not scents I particularly like in wax tarts.

The scents which I don't hate, but don't love either, are Cinnamon Sticks, Black Tea & Almond, and Asian Pear & Plum. I like my fruity scents to be light and fresh, but Asian Pear & Plum is quite heavy, and this is down to the floral and musky notes.

My favourite three are Vanilla Milk Bottles, Black Cherry, and Mulled Wine & Berries. Vanilla Milk Bottles and Black Cherry smell just like you'd imagine, which I'm a fan of! I know I said I'm generally not a fan of warm notes, which is why I don't like many Christmas scents, but Mulled Wine & Berries is beautiful. I think it's because the berry notes remain crisp and tart.

This month's box also came with a couple extras. There's a flamingo shaped tree ornament, and because I've been subscribed to The Melt Crowd for six months, they included a melt in the scent of Snow Angel. Snow Angel is a combination of peppermint, spearmint, and buttercream, and I absolutely love it. I'm tempted to buy the mega melt of this, which is £4 for 70g.

Are you a fan of Christmas scents? I know a lot of people are, but I prefer sweet and fruity over warm and spicy.

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd - November

November's subscription box from Flamingo Candles is one of my favourites to date. If you enjoy home fragrance, I'd definitely recommend The Melt Crowd. Eight scent melts are delivered to your door for £10 a month, and some of these scents are exclusives and previews. You also receive a burner with your first box, a 20% off code each month, and little extras every now and then.

Parma Violets | Sweet and floral, Parma Violets is a gorgeous powdery blend of violets and roses. Overflowing with nostalgia, its warm fragrance comforts and relaxes without having to unwrap the sweetie packaging. I love Parma Violets, so of course I was going to love this!

Darjeeling Tea | Energising and earthy, Darjeeling Tea is a fresh, exotic tea fragrance with lush green leaves, bergamot and may chang, resting on a cool base of musk, amber and dry tea leaves. Surprisingly, I really like this one. It's very fresh and uplifting.

Blackcurrant Jam | Sweet and fruity, Blackcurrant Jam is a mouthwatering accord with top notes of blackcurrant preserve and a touch of soft vanilla. An instant winner in my eyes. I can't wait to melt this.

Violet & Lime | Sweet and floral, Violet & Lime is a delightful mix of green leaf, fruit notes, violet, lily resting on a base note of sandalwood. This one is up there in my top three, along with Parma Violets and Blackcurrant Jam. It's basically a fruity, less powdery version of Parma Violets, and I may even prefer it.

Christmas Tree-O (preview) | This one's not available to buy yet, so there's no description, and I can't pin point the notes! To me, it's slightly fresh, earthy, and has some warmth to it.

Bah! Humbug (preview) | Rich and icy, Bah! Humbug is a mouth-watering peppermint fragrance with notes of vanilla and crisp mint. I was apprehensive about this one. The dark colour suggested it'd be a strong scent, and the name implied a scent that's opposite to anything Christmas-y. I was so glad it turned out to be mint! I'm really looking forward to melting it because it's different to anything I've had before.

Blackberry & Bay Leaf | Fresh and energetic, Blackberry and Bay Leaf is a floral fragrance with blackcurrant, lemon and green leaves leading to a heart of lily of the valley and precious woods. Fresh, floral, and almost soapy. It reminds me of a detergent. It's probably my least favourite from he box, along with Christmas Tree-O, but I still like it, so that shows you how good of a box this month's is.

Warm Vanilla Sugar (exclusive) | You can't go wrong with this, can you? I don't find it mouth-wateringly good, but I can see this one going down well on a cold winter's evening.

So, there we have it. If you're a member of The Melt Crowd, which is your favourite scent from this month's box? And if you're not, which one do you think would be yours?

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd - October 2015

Another month, another box of wax melts! £2 from this box goes to The Pink Ribbon Foundation, a charity which helps those affected by breast cancer.

For me, this box is like August's, in the sense that I'm a little disappointed. Half the scents aren't my cup of tea. I'll go through them with you.

Pink Ribbon | This is my favourite. It's described as having a rich, cranberry accord dominated by top notes of sweet cranberry blended with prune juice, complimented by a fruity floral heart of summer strawberry, sun ripened raspberry and citrus orange with sweet honey and rose notes. On dry down the base is woody and powdery with notes of cedarwood and vanilla with a hint of raspberry.

Pomegranate & White Fig | Another favourite. When I was playing the guessing game, I knew I liked it because of its subtle, sweet, and slightly floral scent. I'd say it's in the same family as Rose & Marshmallow because of the delicate notes.

Cranberry, Orange & Cinnamon | I like this one. You can smell the cranberry and orange more than the cinnamon, but that's why I like it.

Bubblegum | I didn't guess this scent, but as soon as I read what it was, it was obvious. I like it, but it's not a scent I've ever truly loved.

Nutmeg & Ginger (The Melt Crowd exclusive) | Warm, slightly fruity. This one won't be at the top of my 'to melt' list, but I don't hate it!

Thunderstorm | I've read that a lot of people are loving this. I'm not sure. It's very masculine. My sister said 'eww, it smells like rain and mud', so at least it smells true to its name?

Golden Woodlands | This one's warm and masculine, with some green notes thrown in. It doesn't repulse me, but like the two above, it's not blowing me away. I may burn it after my current one, though, for a change. It may smell nicer when it fills a room.

Applecurrant Crumble | This one is the big disappointment, and one I'm so surprised about because I love everything about crumble. It has this smell which many artificially warm dessert scents tend to have. I can't describe it, but I don't like it. It smells better when you wave it in front of your nose, so it could smell better when melted, but I can't see my opinion of it changing that much.

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd is just £10 a month. Everything you need to know about the subscription can be found here.

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd - September 2015

When this month's box arrived, I pulled out and smelt each one without looking at the names. Sometimes, I find the names can cloud my judgement, so I enjoyed doing it this way. I prefer September's box to August's, and like the variety of scents.

Earl Grey Tea & Cucumber | This one is green, fresh, and unisex. I'm usually a fan of sweet, fruity scents, but this one is surprisingly nice.

White Lilac & Rhubarb | A slightly sweet floral. The rhubarb prevents it from smelling too 'grannyish', and although it's not my favourite, I still like it enough to burn.

Circus Candy Floss | Probably my favourite this month. It's sherbety, and I love those scents.

Grapefruit, Orange & Lemon Peel (The Melt Crowd exclusive) | From the name, you'd think this was citrus overload, but when I blindly smelt it, I thought it was combined with a flower. It made sense when I read 'peel', as it has a green twist.

Lemon & Lime Mojito | Now this is citrus. I love lime scents, so it was bound to be a winner!

Creme Brulee (The Melt Crowd Exclusive) | I thought this was a sweet smelling detergent at first, but when you waft it in front of your nose, the creme brulee notes are more prominent. It's unique, and one I can see myself loving.

Rose & Marshmallow | A light, sweet floral. I love this one.

Jamaican Cafe & Walnut | This one is unlike any melt I've had before, and although I'm not usually a fan of warm scents like this, I don't hate it. It's probably my least favourite out of all of them, but still one I'm happy to burn.

I also received a little package of scent eggs, containing chocolate, vanilla, and coffee scented mini melts. The idea is that, together, they create a cafe mocha scent. I don't like the chocolate and coffee ones individually, but they do come together well.

The Melt Crowd is just £10 a month, and you receive a free wax burner with your first box. You can find out more about it here.

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd | August 2015

Look what arrived on my doorstep yesterday! It's the Flamingo Candles August Box of The Melt Crowd. I'm going to put it out there and say I much preferred July's box. It was lighter, fruitier. So, what do you get in this month's box? I'm going to go through each scent. Some of them have descriptions, which are in italics, but some don't, so bear with me!

Pomegranate Cider | Energetic and fresh Pomegranate Cider is a fruity, pomegranate fragrance with further fruity hints of raspberries, juicy strawberries, ripe peach and nuances of vanilla. I love this one! It reminds me of some kind of ice lolly or sweet I had when I was younger.

Ginger & Lime | I can't find this one online, but thankfully it smells just like the name suggests. It's very fresh and zingy. I'm a fan of anything with lime in.

Strawberries & Champagne | Rich and sweet Strawberries ‘n’ Champagne is a blend of fruity strawberry juice with green top notes and a sweet, malty, champagne base. You can smell the berry notes in there, mixed with the sparkling champagne. I like this one, but it's not one I'd want to repurchase straight away.

Fresh Cotton (The Melt Crowd Exclusive) | This smells like every other fresh cotton wax melt. I like it, but it's nothing new.

Kir Royale | Sweet and spritzy, Kir Royale is a fruity creme de cassis fragrance, lavished with notes of sparkling wine. I'm glad this one has a description because I wouldn't have been able to describe it to you. It's deeper and warmer than I prefer, but I'll still burn it.

Green Apples | Fresh and zesty, Green Apples is the ultimate feel-good scent. Inspired by the Granny Smith apple it blends leafy green accords with citrus notes of lemon, mandarin, apple and melon. A fruity delight! This doesn't smell fresh and zesty to me. It's heavier, like a load of apples have been left in the sun for a couple days. Again, it's warmer than I prefer.

Dahlia (The Melt Crowd Exclusive) | I'm not a fan of this one. It's a heavy floral, which is not my cup of tea at all. It could be nice in small chunks, though.

Circus Doughnuts (The Melt Crowd Preview) | I've saved the weirdest one until last. I appreciate trying a scent before it's released, and I'm intrigued to see the rest of the collection, but it's not really working for me. It does smell like doughnuts, cinnamon doughnuts maybe, and I love eating them, but I prefer to fill my home with fresher scents. Again, it's the warmth which ruins it for me. Just a personal preference.

Although I've yet to burn any of these, last month's smelt the same when melted as they did in their wrappers, so I can see these being the same. This month has been very hit and miss for me, but that's the subscription box game. I'm still looking forward to next month's.

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd | July 2015

I've never signed up to a subscription box before now. You'll get the odd impressive month, but on the whole, I've never thought much of them. They also seem to be getting more and more expensive, with the P&P a separate cost ('only £15! plus £3.95 delivery' so it's £18.95).

This box, however, is £10 including P&P, contains £16 worth of wax melts, a 20% off code to use for that month, and you receive a free burner with your first box. I use an electric one because I'm not allowed flames where I live, but I still appreciate the gesture.

I love July's box. I actually had my eye on the Raspberry & Salted Caramel and Lemon Curd scents on their website, so I was incredibly happy to see them among the others. Island Breeze and Green Tomato Leaf are The Melt Crowd exclusives, and as weird as it sounds, Green Tomato Leaf is probably one of my favourites. It's very fresh, slightly sweet, and green in the nicest way. I was afraid the scents would all smell artificial, and although many of them are sweet, it's a natural sweetness due to the particular scents. My favourite so far has to be Raspberry & Salted Caramel. I don't know if it smells of raspberries and salt caramel, but it's beautiful. It reminds me of Refreshers, but that could just be me. It packs a punch anyway, and I've only been using half.

I'm already looking forward to August's box, and would recommend it if you're a fan of home fragrance. You can take a look at The Melt Crowd subscription here, and check out the other Flamingo Candles products here.
