Someday Summary

I haven't written one of these posts in a few weeks so I thought I'd update you. My life has been pretty boring actually so I don't know what I'm going to write.

  • Remember I had an interview at Falmouth University? I wrote a whole post about it. Well the following day they offered me a conditional. In the prospectus, they said they wanted 220 UCAS points (Which would work out as CCD) but on the letter they sent me, they want me to get a B in English and Media. I have conditionals for all my choices but they all want me to get a B in English which is going to be hard. I don't think I'm going to get into University and don't know what I'm going to do with my life.
  • I'm behind on my Media coursework and English coursework. I need to take my own photos for my Media magazine to get a good grade. I don't have many friends and am not close to any guys who are suitable to take photos of (Need a guy on the cover of my magazine). Also, my sister has only just agreed to have her photo taken for a few of the pages. English... I've transcribed 3 out of 4 films but have had trouble downloading the 4th (Beauty and The Beast) because our internet connection went. This has delayed me transcribing it, delaying me creating the data graphs, delaying me writing the essay that has to be in Friday. I'm going to have to ask for more time.
  • My friend got us Lee Evans tickets for August. I've never been to see someone famous (Have never even been to a concert :() so I'm excited!
  • As well as saving up to pay for the ticket, I have to save up for a sixth form leavers hoodie, May Ball dress, shoes etc...
  • I need to make my blog more personal and I know people like OOTDs and FOTDS. I hate having my photo taken and have boring clothes but I am going to try and do an OOTD/FOTD once a week (The next week is going to be super busy so I'll have to see if I can do one).

A few photos I've found from weheartit:

LOL.

Stila Eye Shadows

On Wednesday, Nicoletta blogged that M and M Direct were selling Stila eyeshadows (And a few other products) for just 98p each (They're normally £10 something). I didn't need or want any but still found myself buying six? I don't know how! I guess I just wanted to try some Stila products.
I wish I'd actually known about the offer earlier because some gorgeous shades were sold out.
Without further ado, here are the six I purchased:

Left to right: Espresso, Nanda Devi, Barefoot Contessa, Twig, Jezebel, Chinchina.

Same order as above.

The pigmentation varies; Espresso and Twig are particularly pigmented whereas Nanda Devi and Chinchina (The two matte shades) need building up.
I've never owned single pan eye shadows so now I get to start my own palette! I actually don't wear eye shadow on my lids that often (I wear it on my lower lash line) but I'm trying to wear it more.

I find cheaper brand eye shadows more pigmented. For example, Sleek and MUA have great pigmentation whereas MAC doesn't (In my opinion from the shades I've tried. Don't shoot me MAC fans!). Urban Decay is a hit and miss (YDK, Half Baked and Twice Baked are very pigmented whereas Flipside, Flash and Kiddie Pool take a lot of building up).
Pigmentation, to me, is a quality that you expect to find in higher brand eye shadows but from what I've experienced, isn't the case. Maybe the cheaper ones are more loosely packed?
Stila eye shadows are in the middle; not as pigmented as Sleek but still quite pigmented.

17 Endless Shine Lip Gloss in Pink Lady

Price: £3.59

I'm not a regular lip gloss wearer but I'm beginning to wear it more. When I first saw this I didn't think much of it. I was surprised to see this has 5 star ratings on Boots.com so decided to give it a chance.

What I love about this product is the packaging. A lot of lip glosses on the market these days bulk up the packaging to make 3ml of product look like 9ml. The 5ml of product you get with this lip gloss is in a basic plastic tube; no deceiving involved. The lid clicks firmly in place and also has a 'stopper' to make sure no product leaks.

The formula is very glossy (Hence the name!) and the consistency is slightly thick/sticky, but in a good way. This makes the gloss last longer than others would. Pink Lady is a shimmery pink which is very pretty.

I can see why this product has so many great reviews.

Cheap Reads

Obviously you can go to the library or internet and read a book for free, but sometimes I like to own the books myself.

For starters, charity shops always have books. However, I am normally looking for a specific one and do not want to go to every charity shop in my city looking for it.

Here are a few books I've recently acquired:

Play.com have a huge range of books for great prices. I bought the anxiety one for £3.54, the self-esteem bible for £2.50 and Alan Carr's biography for £1.95. Free delivery.
They've been used before but I don't care, it's not going to affect how I read it.

Waterstones regularly offer books for people to read and review for their site. Follow them on Facebook or Twitter for updates on the books available to review. Then all you have to do is send them an email with the book you want to review and your address. There is only a limited number of copies for each one though so you must be quick!
The two books above are the recent ones I was sent and are new on the shelves. I've just sent off for 'Black Flowers' which sounds very good!

Tag: How much is your face worth?

This is just a quick post seeing how much money is spent on my daily 'face'. This doesn't include skincare, just make up.

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer in 01 Fair: £3.99
First Light Cosmetics Mineral Perfect Finish in Air Kiss: £12.99
Natural Collection Blush in Pink Cloud: £1.99
NYX Brow Powder in Taupe/Ash: Not sure on the price, around £4
MUA Eye Shadow in Shade 8 (To line my lower lashes): £1
Collection 2000 Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Eye Liner: £2.99
No7 Exquisite Curl Mascara: £10
Vaseline Rosy Lips Lip Balm: £1.99

Total: £38.95

I think that's pretty good! I regularly change my blush and mascara; my other blushers are more expensive but my other mascaras are less expensive so it averages out.

I also don't wear the eye liner and lip balm everyday so the total is normally cheaper.

17 Va Va Voom Plumping Lip Gloss in So Buff

Bare lips, lips 15 minutes after applying the lip gloss.

This is a new product from 17 which has come out with the Spring Collection and is £3.79.
So Buff is a nude shade suspended in small shimmer particles. I think the other two shades are also suspended in shimmer as the particles reflect light, creating an illusion of fuller lips.
The gloss tingles/almost stings for about half an hour which I like.
As you can see from the photos, the gloss fills out the lines in my lips and the colour evens out the tone. Because of the shimmer particles reflecting light and the gloss filling out the lines, it makes my lips look slightly fuller but in terms of size, I don't think it makes a huge difference.

Overall, I really like this gloss. The photos speak for themselves!

17 Blusher in First Kiss

Swatched heavily and blended out.

Price: £3.49.
I think this is a new shade as it isn't on Boots.com yet.

The powder is soft, easy to blend and pigmented. First Kiss is a dusky rose pink with a golden sheen; very beautiful.
I cannot fault this blush and will be looking at the other shades available!

17 Lasting Fix Lipstick in Showbiz

Price: £4.29

Lightly dabbed on.

Applied heavily.

This is very pigmented and as the name suggests, lasts longer than other formulations. It's also non-drying. It leaves a gorgeous stain on your lips, like the second photo. I'm not one to wear a red lip, I think I look stupid, so prefer to wear it like in the second photo; the 'just eaten strawberries' natural look.

17 Lasting Fix Nail Polish in Sweet Kisses

From the Spring collection.

This is a unique shade. I would describe it as a muted pastel pink with a hint of lilac; very pretty indeed!

Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick in Ambre Rose

If you would like to see swatches of 6 other shades in the Maybelline Colour Sensational range, click here.

I bought this from Fragrance Direct for £1.50, £3.45 including P&P. The site offers a few other shades which aren't well known, which is why I was surprised to see them selling Ambre Rose because it's a popular shade from the range.

Ambre Rose is a light pinky-peach with subtle gold shimmer. It's very pretty indeed! I have the same feelings towards the lipstick packaging and formula as in my other post. Again, the link is above!

Interview

This is a ramble post; you don't have to read it!

I had my interview at Falmouth University today.

When I first received the letter telling me about the interview, I said I wasn't going. I'm terrified of meeting new people so avoid most situations where this is included.
After thinking about it and being persuaded by others, I agreed to go. Even sending the confirmation email, I felt sick.
For weeks, I wasn't nervous because it didn't seem real. Last night and this morning I was nervous but no way near as much as I thought I would be. Surprisingly, on the way to the interview, my nerves didn't get the better of me and I wasn't sick. This is because I kept my mind off of it. Thinking about what will happen is a big no. What you think is usually far worse than the actual situation is and you end up working yourself up for nothing.

I got to the reception and waited. My knees were actually trembling!

The letter I received about the interview stated that it would last approximately 3 hours, including a tour, introduction to the course, group discussion and individual interview. I contacted the University to see how many other applicants would be attending and the reply was 6.
Wrong. They were expecting me along with another girl. The other girl didn't turn up so it was just me.
I also expected there to be about 3 interviewers but there was just one woman. She took me through the campus, chatting along the way. We went into a room and she casually started asking me questions. It was so relaxed and casual I didn't realise it was the interview! It lasted around 10 minutes and then I went home haha
She was amazed that I've raised around 30 kittens and kept asking me questions about it. She also seemed interested in my blog. A few of my answers could have been better but it was so casual it seemed like a normal conversation.

The campus is beautiful and they don't have formal examinations as they believe you cannot judge someone's ability from a one hour exam. They focus on the coursework.

Also, although I've applied for English with Media, I have a choice to have an English with Creative Writing degree.
Both courses do the same modules for the first year. For the second I can choose modules from the Media and Creative Writing courses. It's the third year in which I choose whether I want an English with Media degree or English with Creative Writing.

Although the interview didn't push me in the deep end, in terms of my fear with meeting new people, I'm so proud of myself for having the courage to go.

Shop!

The photos aren't of great quality because my camera was running out of battery!

It's my dad's birthday tomorrow. He doesn't like presents, a fuss and has everything he needs. I decided to get him a jar and fill it with his favourite sweets, wine gums. I also couldn't resist putting Jelly Tots on top!

H&M extra small dress, £14.99. This photo doesn't do the dress justice at all! I didn't have time to put it on though as my camera was flashing at me. It's high waisted. I don't want to wait until the Summer to wear this so I think I'm going to pair it with tights and a cardigan to wear now.

Asda black cardigan, £12.50.

Asda necklace, half price £4. I was going to buy this last week but didn't want to spend £8 so when I saw it on offer it went straight into the trolley.

MUA Eye Shadows

Shades 1, 6 and 8.
Swatches applied dry and then wet.

£1 each.

MUA is a brand I've always walked past. I read some good reviews on the eye shadows and lipsticks but none persuaded me to purchase. I decided to swatch these in town last week (I swatched half the products in Superdrug!) and after trying them, went straight to the till.
Shade 1 is a gorgeous highlight. I wear eye shadow along my lower lash line, mostly blues and greens, so that's the reason why I purchased shades 6 and 8. These are all very pigmented! I'm extremely impressed, especially considering the price.
The matte shades in the range lack pigmentation but thankfully, most of the eye shadows are a pearl finish.

Next on my list: shades 9 and 11!

Nails Of The Week! (Technically Next Week!)

Models Own Nude Beige.

This is my first Models Own polish! I bought it from a blog sale for £2 :)
I've filed my nails down and painted them this colour as I have an interview Wednesday.
I thought I would like it but I was wrong, I love it!

Hurraw! Lip Balms

I ordered these from Super Smoocher, a website home to 100% natural lip balms. To read a review of the website and Crazy Rumours lip balm in French Vanilla, click here.

Lime, Grapefruit, Tinted Cinnamon.

These are £3.45 each. I LOVE the packaging; the simplicity, the little image of the scent and the shape. These are oval which for some reason, really amuses me!

Like with most lip balms I've tried, these moisturise well. Saying that, I don't have dry lips so every lip balm I've tried does the job nicely.

The Lime and Grapefruit scents are more subtle than I imagined and smell like Starburst sweets. To be honest, I was a little disappointed as I was expecting strong, citrus scents which could be detected from across the room. However, they still smell great, I just had different expectations. Out of the two, Lime is my favourite just because I prefer the scent of Lime! and also because it smells stronger.

The Cinnamon one however, smells very strong! But not in an overpowering way. When applied, it makes your lips tingle like a lip plumping product would. The tint it gives to your lips is very subtle:

(Look at those freckles!) No product on top lip, Tinted Cinnamon lip balm on the bottom.

Overall, I like these lip balms and am interested in trying the other scents available.

Nails Of The Week!

I edited (Cropped) the photos on my dad's wide computer screen so on a normal computer my nails look ridiculously long; they're not!

GOSH Holographic. Normal price: £5.
The second photo is in natural light; the polish looks like a plain silver.
The third photo is with a flash (False light) and you can see the holographic effect (Sorry for the red hands!).
It took 4 coats but I knew it would take quite a few.
It's very unusual and looks like it should belong in a sci-fi movie!

Shop!

I went in town to find an interview outfit. I found some smart, dark denim shorts from Newlook and a grey, loose T-shirt to tuck into them (A shirt wouldn't have looked right with the shorts). I didn't get them though because I thought it would have looked too casual but I'm going to order them now. I think it should be OK to wear. I only think it would be inappropriate if I wore jeans and a hoodie to the interview. I will wear these two items with a cardigan, black tights and black dolly shoes.

GOSH Holographic! It was half price too at just £2.49. Half the GOSH make-up was on sale; liquid liners, eyeshadow quads etc.

From Superdrug, I also bought three MUA eyeshadows, £1 each. These are really pigmented!

WHSmith Cupcake storage drawers, half price £9.99. I already have the Blossom design which holds my make-up but I wanted another set of drawers for my jewellery. It was quite hard lugging this around town though!

No7 Exquisite Curl Mascara

Two coats on top lashes, one coat on bottom.

This mascara is No7's latest addition to the range and I was looking forward to trying it because I have never used a No7 mascara before. The packaging is really pretty; a muted lilac with shimmer. The wand is similar to Maybelline Falsies but instead of the wand being flat, it's rounded. It doesn't pick up a lot of product which is great because I find mascara wands that do usually clump your lashes together. I look for two qualities in a mascara; it needs to darken my lashes and it must not clump. Like most mascaras, it darkens. As for the clumping; there is none. I really like it! It gives a natural look and you can layer it on without any clumping.

At the moment you can purchase this mascara from Boots for £10; £13 from the 23rd February.
