My first choice University was Plymouth and my second was Marjon (which is also in Plymouth). Over the months, I convinced myself I'd never get into Plymouth, so I became more attached to Marjon. I also liked that Marjon only has 3,000 students, where as Plymouth has 10x that.
Yesterday morning I logged into Track. Track said they would open at 8am, but at 7am, it was working. It said that I had got into Plymouth and I was in shock. I went and got my results and was surprised because I didn't meet Plymouth's grade requirements, but they still offered me a place. I didn't want to go to Plymouth anymore though. I got home and asked Marjon if I could still have my place, in which they replied "We'd be delighted to give you a place". I then filled out an online form and emailed Plymouth asking to be released. I went on Track this morning, seen that I had been released from Plymouth and added Marjon in clearing. 5 minutes later they accepted me!
I really hope that I don't regret withdrawing from Plymouth. I didn't get the grades to go there anyway so would feel like I didn't deserve a place. 3,000 students is still a lot to me, so I think Marjon is going to challenge me greatly.
My grades weren't the best and I did get a little upset about them. So many people had got As and Bs, so I felt a little dumb compared to them. At the end of the day though, I had 5 conditionals and was accepted into 2 Universities, so it could be a lot worse.
I am absolutely terrified of going though. New people, all the work and on top of that, I don't have many clothes haha

  1. you already know my opinion. i think a bigger university would have been better for you.

uni is all about doing something you wouldnt normally do to challenge yourself and i think that's why i think you should've chosen the better, bigger uni.

but i wish you soooo much luck hun!! im sure it'll be fun & good regardless xxxx

  2. Grades are all very well lovely- but if theres no point in having them, then you don't need them. So you are using your grades to get into Uni, but that's it- you never have to talk about them again. They will be on your CV and it's fine, because you got into Uni and you will have the best time of your life!!!
Well done hun! Try not to think about it too much, it's done and dusted and now a new part of your life is reading to start :) xo

  3. Congrats on getting into uni Louise! A lot of people with A*s didn't get in so I honestly don't think grades matter, I know i'm just happy I got a place!
I've just written a post for people to share their uni advice so you could always have a look at that :) I'm nervous too but equally excited about my future!

  4. You may have second guessed yourself but at the end of the day, who doesn't and what better to trust than your own guts? It's 3 miniscule years of your life, and it's what you make of it that really counts.

I worked with prospective students of my uni and they always ask me if I wish I'd gone to another uni, and I always ask them how I should know because it's not like I know what another uni would've been like ;P You've made your decision, now make the best you can out of it :)

  5. Like you said it's your choice, and there's no point you going to plymouth if you're already thinking you'd be happier else where :)
I'm looking at quite a big uni and i'm mildly petrified as my college only have 250people! but I'm looking forward to all the new people, if that's not for you the smaller uni will probably suit you better :)

  10. I did the exact same thing, convinced myself that i couldnt get into leeds even tho they offered me a place, so i put salford first and then i got 50 points over the requirement for leeds so i could have got in, but i think i made the right decision. Im sure you will be happy with your decision :) good luck x

  12. Congratulations! :) The fab thing about uni (all my friends have said) is that you're forced to step out of your comfort zone. As you're in a new situation, just like everyone else it's so much easier to make friends - especially with your house mates! xx

  15. Congratulations (: I'm sure you'll do brilliantly wherever you are. I was the same last year wanting to go to my insurance more than my firm, in the end I chose my firm and love it. After all, you won't know any different from the uni your at so it really doesn't matter if it's your first or second choice and it sounds like you really do prefer that one better than your first (: good luck x

  16. Congratulations on getting into uni. And well done for being brave and changing your choice - you have to go somewhere that YOU think you're going to be comfortable at and that's the most important thing. x

  17. Go with your guts petal. I always got told I should have applied for "harder" graded universities (even though I went to Newcastle and they had fairly high grades) but I knew where I felt i'd settle the most and Newcastle just felt right for me.

Congrats on your grades and enjoy your university years. Speaking from experience they years go too quick!

  18. Glad you get to go where you want. Don't worry about your A level grades too much my best friend got a F in chemistry but graduated with a 1st in chemistry and then went on to do a phd in chemical engineering. Not too shabby. You'll do really well if you put the work in and I'm sure choosing the right uni for you will help that

  20. Well done :) I can't believe you actually got into UCAS, I literally spent 2 hours with track open in one window and facebook in the other (to share anger at nobody getting into UCAS haha) and had to go in for my results in the end - but I got what I needed so I'm happy

I think how much you like a place matters more than the grades you need to get in, so you probably made the right decision changing over, as long as it wasn't a complete last minute decision :)
